Tempesti Part 2: Drying

As we climbed the stairs we were blown away by the sight of a batch of around 1500 richly coloured hides hanging above us. Theres no way that our pictures can do justice to the abundance of colours, tones and texture. Seeing the material in its raw state like this gives you a huge appreciation for its unrivalled quality.

The hides are suspended using pins at each of their corners in order cause minimal damage. Racks are automated, incorporating a conveyer that allows hides to be hung at waist height and then elevated. In days gone by hides would be pinned and then manually hoisted onto the rack which was incredibly labour intensive. Batches are processed according to tone, split between light and dark colours before being transported to Tempesti's main facility for finishing.
